Royal Wedding Ride
Realised late friday that had no plans and no obligations Sat morning. Suggested an easy OVT ride on CQ site but no takers - everyone heading to Katie M Adventure Rally or otherwise occupied. Messaged a few locals and Dutchy450 was keen for a short ride so long as his bestie (Acid Glove Eddie) could come too.
Bit of a late start but we got there ... Dutchy's bike was down on maintenance with 6 month old fuel etc and only 4psi in the front tyre so after the first few kms of sand we called in to OVT (in case any strays turned up) and to inflate Dutchy's tyre. Then off out to Pinjar to see if anyone else we know was riding the loops RTRA have supplied. Couldn't spot anyone so Dutchy450, Eddie and I headed out east and found a wasteland where there used to be some half decent pine plantation tracks. I guess a bulldozer has been through after pine tree harvesting - followed by a burnoff that has cleared everything left behind. Looks a bit of a 'nuclear wastland'. Some rain and will probably bounce back. Eddie overtook the leader TWICE on the way back (he's been riding with JNR and Hooters a bit too much lately I guess) so we let him go the second time and made our own way back. We did an easy 60km including checking out an old abandoned limestone / sand quarry that I had never ridden before ... dozens of em out there and some are worth checking out as long as you watch out for the drops. Headed back to mine for quick refreshment and wash the dust off bikes before deciding to test the new top box out with a few chilled bevvies and trip to the beach. Seems to work ok - just need to try her out on the whoops with half a carton onboard and see how she goes! There's always next weekend.         |
