Arriving down at the camp spot late afternoon on Friday gave me enough time to set up and find my beers and food for dinner before sitting back around the camp fire having a drink and chatting with the guys n girls from PAR. 12 beers later it was bed time.
Up early the next morning for shower and breakfast before the ride meeting. X was cutting it fine arriving with just enough time to suit up before we were off. Jeremy lead the group of 45 riders of varying shapes and sizes. Starting with some single tracks to get the group warmed up before the first water crossing and unfortunately our first fatality with one of the sweeps down and drowned. Very cold that was the end of his ride.
So once out of the single tracks it was open 4wd tracks and then onto a few graded roads. Myself and X pulled up at out respective corner points and waited nearly an hour while the next rider further back came down heavily on a GS 800 drowning his bike and doing some serious damage to his shoulder and taken to hospital. X was impressed with his recently purchased BMW 650 and how good his soft seat was. I was impressed he hadn’t come off with a trials tyre on the front and road tyre on the rear.
Anyhow off we headed to Greenbushes for lunch with some very cold wet weather around Kirup. The pub served up 45 burgers in less than an hour and not bad grub at all.
X decided not to risk riding the tracks back and headed off on the tar to the camp to set up the fire n bbq. He found out on the way back that his bike has heater grips after suffering all the way down in the cold. The wooduck award goes to ???
Anyhow some beautiful scenery on the return riding up through some nice graded Forrest hills and traveling along the Blackwood River. About 20 minutes from camp another rider was off with a badly damaged shoulder. We sorted his DR 650 out before he was rescued and returned to camp.
So back to camp we arrived at about 5 pm with the bbq up and going. It was shower food and beer time. We sat around the camp fire till around 11 pm telling tall stories of the days event.
ROTD goes to X for staying upright on those tyres.
A special thanks to a Jeremy and his team for putting on a very professional outfit with great riding tracks.
Also to Colin for all his work along with many others to get it all organised, well done champ.
And to Roley and Steve for making up the Famous Five on the day.
I would recommend that the Crustys get involved in some of these rides with a good bunch of reasonably capable riders with a few standouts.
I will return thanks guys.
Bunga.
