Ride Report: Too many rocks, 29-06-19
Riders: Mickkal, Jack, Jed77, KTMike
The ride was called late in the week with no plan in mind, a little discussion of difficulty and hills saw the creation of an 80Km track by Mickal with the comment, many hills the wrong direction. I called the ride however came up with the week excuse I forgot my phone holder and asked Mickkal to lead. A good turnout of 4 Crustys regulars and 3 potential new members. We set off from Sawyers at a gentlemanly 9am to hit the first single track which tightened up quickly making hard work for Jack who I’m sure was regretting not bringing his 2 banger. The first hill was a rock pile, the combination of loose rocks & slippery bedrock sorted out the pack, after only a few making the climb, the decision was made to turn around and take another trail a little less difficult. The next memorable hill climb was a ripper with deep washouts, loose rocks, off camber sections, a fun long climb that had everyone laughing when they made it to the top with stories of near miss events causing riders to spear off into the bush, as I did not see it I’m not sure it happened. Further hills caused more laughter and carnage, to add to the wear marks on the bikes, a short river run was also thrown in to add mud to the mix. It was unanimous everyone had had their fill of challenges and it was time to head back. The way back was via one continuous single trail which meandered along parallel to the power lines track, with already tired arms we battled yet more rocks the majority of the way along the track. When we reached the water tanks I’m sure there were silent celebrations that we had made it to the end of the rocky single, would I do it all over again? Bet your bottom dollar I would, worn out and tired by the end of the ride we made it back to the cars, packed up a quickly as the body would allow and settled in for a reflection on the day over some sliders and beers.
A huge shout of for Mickkal for planning and leading the ride, thanks to all those that attended to make it a great ride and to Jack to sweeping.
