Two Knives at a Gun Fight
(Players: JNR, Tommy, Pounce,TigeR, Jinxy, Jack)

Some early mid week October rain excited us all that one more great ride can be had without the dust. So as we all kept checking into the CQ site to see who’s going to call a ride, JNR was itching to get his 690 out for a blast. With only the sound of crickets on the CQ site JNR stepped up and called a Big Bike Ride, this got us all by surprise as the big bikes are only fired up during the summer months.

Suddenly big bike maintenance schedules had to be brought forward and slowly ride commitments were being posted on the site, this spurred some of the sleepers to get theirs ready too and five turned up at the Rock Inn.

Now the great thing about adventure rides is that many bikes can be classed as Adventure Weapons, and their capabilities vary considerably according to weight and horsepower, well that’s what I thought !

Weight to power ratio Pounce and JNR had the big guns KTM 690’s with 74hp at the rear wheel, then TigeR on DRZ400 39Hp, Tommy on DR650 46hp and then Jack brought out a butter knife to the gun fight with his F800GS 85hp and Jinxy brought a combat knife being an Africa Twin 94hp.

Quickly I realised it’s not about the weapon, but about the fighter. Jinxy absolutely massacred us all with his African Twin. It ploughed a continues trench from the Rock Inn all the way into Dwellingup and back. There was no need for a corner man system, just follow the trench and any detours around fallen trees were cleared for us as if a dozer bladed its way through the bush. Jinxy was unbelievable on the Africa Twin, he is definitely a poster boy for this bike.
HONDA you need Jinxy in your marketing campaign !

We meandered our way from the Rock Inn and back through 300km of perfect riding conditions. Attended to a few track side repairs such as Tommy snapping a handle bar mount bolt and securing it with cable ties, Jack bending his footbrake lever, JNR loosing is side stand spring. Some of us overshot a few corners, others had taken a few spills as expected and TigeR (Shark) took the opportunity to go for a swim in a mud puddle, as expected !

Great leading by Tommy to Dwellingup through some amazing bush and JNR leading on the return leg, tacking his way back on fast flowing twin trails. Over a few beers back at the Rock Inn, entertainment was provided by the local bogans on dirtbikes doing laps of the pub in between sculling pints of beer (Only at the Rock Inn).

Oh, and thank you to TigeR for sweeping, just next time tell us before you go swimming so we can photograph you in your natural environment and maybe, just maybe you will be a poster boy for KLIM :)
