Listening to pitter-patter on my roof all night and thinking of legit sounding excuses to get out of the ride was more exhausting then just gritting it and heading out. So load the bike up early in the morning, grab a coffee on the go and head out to Lakes BP.

Quarter to eight still nobody here, really did everybody bail ? and then boom all 10 minus 2 rock up within 5 minutes of each other, quick intros, bit of banter to put some humor to this situation and off to the parking spot whilst the rain continued to precipitated.
A short break in the rain at the parking spot let us rig up dry and try to bump start a KTM, no joy at bump starting so off with the seat and wallah earth lead bolt is loose. As soon as we hit the tracks the rain returned and pretty much stayed with us for the rest of the ride until again when back at the cars we got a break to pack up, shoot shit and leave for home.

We have ridden these tracks before, but with impaired vision, foggy googles and wet balls it was a whole new experience and an enjoyable one at that. Because when you are wet to the bone it no longer matters to stay dry and you can enjoy the trails for what they are.

Slippery hill climbs, deep creek crossings and mushy mud sections all made for a great day out. Julian ran out of fuel at the 70km mark, was forgiven for this as he’s not ridden for 2 yrs and assumed ¾ of a tank would get him 100km. Shortly after my TPI low fuel light came on and I moved from sweep duties to middle of the pack. Then as luck would have it there was Slates with two mates hanging out at the Flynn Rd Hooligan Parking spot, so I was able to bum some fuel from him to make the last 10km to the cars. Once again MickKal stitched together some great tracks and added a new one to his quiver.

Jack

Thanks Jack for another great report. Although there were a few omissions:
#1 was Jacks McGiverish skills to get Mattstiff up and running before the ride even started, great job and I was sure Mattstiff was ready to load up his bike and head home before you found that loose earth cable on Matt’s battery.
#2 Jack was the super sweep.
#3 Was Jack coming to rescue for Julian and using his siphon hose to get fuel from Judds Fuel Tanker to fill up Julian’s 350 when he ran out. But the best part was when after the fuel transfer Jack insisted that Julian put the siphon hose into a certain pocket of his invisible backpack that he wasn’t wearing. Jack kept pointing to his back but Julian just had a confused look on his face, and then Jack realised his back pack was actually about 20m away on his bike. LOL. Good times.
#4 My vote for ROTD is Jack
Mickkal

Thanks everyone for a great day out.

You weren't wrong I was ready to load up before the day even started, I guess I now know that the bike won't start (by kick start or pull start) at all with a completely dead battery or a shitty Earth.

The earth was loose again when I got home, it turns out the thread insert has pulled out of the plastics. likely from one of the many crashes I've had this season. (The Earth strap bolts to one of the rear mud guard mounting bolts that connects it to the alloy sub frame) I guess I was lucky it didn't give me grief for the rest of the day.
