11 Riders turned out for the annual Australia Day Lano run. There were a few new faces amongst the crowd, Danny on his 450 Honda, Graham on a KX 250 smoker and Drew on a TTR 230. I gave Drew rider of the day for pushing the little 4 stroke hard and putting in a big effort for his first trip to Cervantes and return. I heard at least 3 others say it was also their first trip up that way.

DREW - ROTD

Howard rode lead and Pete rode sweep. Craig was on every second corner marking the direction and then riding hard through the pack and to the front again, to mark yet another corner. Well done Craig and well done to the new fellows who caught on quick and marked corners as well.

Howard kept the group moving at a good pace all day but was complaining that he just couldn't get into a rhythm with all those 4 wheel drives out there. There were some good steady rides from Clive, Brad, Roley and Shaun. Graham took it steady to conserve fuel on the smoker but every now and again gave it big hand fulls and went crazy. He ran out of fuel just as he pulled into the road house at Cervantes. Danny swapped bikes with Howard on the way back and the old WR ran out of fuel, needed a top up from another bike and a tow start from Col.

CERVANTES TURNOFF

We left Lano with 11 riders and Peter picked up a stray on a Husky just after Wedge. The young rider said he wanted to ride to Cervantes with us but didn't have any money on him for fuel so Pete paid his fuel bill (paid back in full back at his camp). When we dropped him off back at his camp, Craig had problems restarting the WR. Or so he says. There were a couple a good looking ladies there not wearing a whole lot and we gathered that he simply wanted to stay for the show!!! So it took him 20 minutes to get going again.

Meanwhile the rest of the boys had a breather on the beach which gave Brad and Col an opportunity to cut up the sand and get some wheelie practice in. Col pulled his best stand up wheelie he had ever done just to be told by Peter his batteries had just died in the video camera. Brad pulled a good stand up wheelie also and then braked hard to avoid hitting a rocky outcrop. A few minutes later Col picked up stack of the day flipping the WR on the beach.

LUNCH AT CERVANTES - AGAIN - CAN YOU PICK THE HONDA RIDER

JUST TO PROVE THE SMOKER MADE IT TO CERVANTES

It was dusty out there but a strong breeze cleared the dust pretty quickly most of the time. The grouped knocked up about 180 k's and all the guys had big smiles when we got back to the trailers. The new guys said it was awesome and can't wait to do it again. I bet they will be feeling a bit sore the next day after a big ride like that.

NEW GUY DANNY

GRAHAM - OR IS RICHARD GERE?

He calls himself Graham but I think this is Richard Gere having a ride down under.
