collie lived up to its freezing temps by greeting all that made the trek to the pony express with fog and zero or below temp.
steve525 and craig were snug in their swags havin made camp with fire the arvo before. scott and troy made the long trip from clarkson at 4am. Chumba got to the track about midnight sat night, sleeping in the van(separatley)and waking to make brekky only to realise chmba had forgotten gas bottle!
steve was first to start in the club class and his bike took a bit to get started with him starting mid pack but goin round the chaos on the spectator area to pass a few riders in the deep rutted boggy sand.
scott and chumba were up next with no warning from the starter. luckily chumba got away in 4th into the bush while scott was totally unprepared for the imprompt start and got away safely but again middish pack gainin a few spots goin into the bush.
the loops started rocky, opening up in the middle with rocky sections, and ended rocky with a small rutted finish area which made conditions very tough for the day.
chumba got back ten secs after steve which had already tagged craig and sent him off.
the only time i saw scott or troy was at the start area and watched as their smiles wore down during the day!
steve525 earns SOTD apparently comin off near a creek crossing(feel free to edit steve) and earnin a free ride back to the pits. craig was on the start as steves crash unfolded and craig was heard saying "good luck! hahaha". some blokes will do anything to get into the esky quicker! back at the car it looked like steve had contracted elephantitis in his ankle as the swelling had taken over.

scott and troy retired from the race as they had enough and nobody can blame them in the tryin track conditions.
as the day went on, rocks became more exposed, ruts and whoops deeper, sand boggier which meant the harder stuff was still ahead.
the 3rd and 4th did feel better though as new lines opened up and the threat of the front wheel being taken out was now accustomed.
chumba finished to see the other boys had started to make the long trek home NOR. at presentations the pair got 3rd for novice class being beaten by some very fast novices.
not sure why but wasnt as smooth as other ponies. the novice class start was mayhem, they ran out of trophies with only one half of each team receiving trophy and their was NO spot prizes to be seen. is this the new format for 07 ponies?
