Four official Crustys made it down to Grimwade to ride the State Round. Steve525 also came along (pit bitch) as well as Jamie (KTM 640 who took the boys for a ride down around Byford recently) who only wanted to know if the rangers were around. LOL

After a cold night in the tent, up came the sun to reveal a spectacular sunny winters morning. Not a cloud in the sky and the ground was nice and moist after a week of good rain. We had the usual riders briefing reminding us that motorcycling is dangerous. Der!!! We were also told that there were 130 odd riders in the event and be prepared for some fast trails and to take it easy as there was plenty of trail time allowed.

The clocks were set and off went the first riders at 9.00am (enduro time). Gazza was off about the 12 minute mark, Craig took of some 11 minutes later and I was 3 minutes behind him. The trails were sweet. Plenty of fast sections, broken up by the traditional single track stuff and a few long sections of nothing but cut down pine trees laying in every direction across the trail. There were also a couple of fairly nasty mud crossings, with the worst of them being diverted around by lap four. Gazza got stuck in this one on lap one and lost around 20 minutes and ended up riding on my minute for the last 3 laps.

Craig and myself both completed the four laps under time and did it easy as there was more than enough trail time to allow old folk like us to manage it. The special test was very ordinary. It was super tight, with tree roots poking through whoops in every direction, slippery logs ready to bight you and trees close enough to smack your bars on. I backed off big time here and was more than happy to save my limbs to enjoy the rest of the ride.

Jaybo picked up a bee sting early on in the event and had to retire after lap one stating that he has an allergy to these little buggers. I recon he is just a girly boy and if he was a true Crusty he would have ridden the event out to the end. Craig picked up ROTD knocking up his 50th Crusty ride and becoming a "Legend" and finishing his first T & E enduro completely and under time. Well done buddy.

This enduro would have to be one of the best events I have been in this year and I look forward to riding it again next year. If you are not a full on mad man and like a good trail ride over superb country side with not too much pressure, then this is the event for you. See you there next year.
