Orry called a midweek ride for the FIFO guys and local slackers!! 7 riders showed up for what turned out to be great paced ride in top conditions. After a shaky start we lost one player, Daves mate Scotty, riding a 2 stroke mixer, it just wasn't his day..after drowning it a couple of times was finally beaten by a hill he didn't even want to attempt. After only 15ks in, Orry pointed him towards the route back to the car park...where he had to sit for the whole day waiting for Dave!! Definite HOG award territory. Whilst waiting, Choko, on his anniversary of 1 yr of riding with the crustys, had another blast up the hill..only to stall it whilst moaning "ive just not got it today"!! this wasn't true, he rode well all day and I think he is now just fishing for compliments lol!!
The rest of the day was filled with goat trails, water, open tracks..and yes more water..it was awesome. We even managed to avoid nasty whoops. Ross on the DRZ, on only its 2nd trailbike outing, took a few tumbles and finally smashing his radiator against a tree stump, spilitting it. He was heading for SOTD award....After a quick fix of pepper in the rad thanks to orry, he and orry took of for the last 10ks on the gravel track whilst we did the last loop towards the banister roadhouse for a feed. The trails leading there were awesome, tight and twisty and waterlogged..it doesn't get much better than this. We clocked up about 90ks by the time we stopped for a feed..and you could tell!!..With another pile of pepper in ross's rad, the journey back started a bit slower due to the fed bellies but soon quickened up as the tracks were open and fast flowing, lots of bends you could see around enabling you to really drift the back end and get on the gas. Orry and craig took turns to lead the ride, and was clear craig knew his way around the area well and his riding abilities were of a high standard...... the red expert stickers on his bike should have given me a clue!! Ross had a bit of scare when he did a tank slapping power slide through some mud, which by craigs accounts he was lucky to stay on. I also had a bit of scare on the green slimy stuff on the track, hitting it about 50ks and the bike starting ice skating, first heading towards a log over the track. Only by pulling on the bars to turn hard did I narrowly miss it only to be faced with heading for a tree....I narrowly missed it by inches and came to a stand still, still upright, counting my lucky stars I didn't hit either..it would have been ugly..if not for me, the bike.
Coming through some more goat trails I came across Ross's drz across the track and found him about 6ft away flat out. There was tree that he'd hit and was in the same state he was. After composing himself and pulling some more broken parts of the bike we decided to take it slow back to cars which was now only about 20 mins away. Its at this part of the ride that everyone gets tired and ross lost it a few times in the sand and everyones concentration wasn't starting to fade! Taking it easy was a good idea as everyone got back to the cars in one peace and exhausted, which after almost 160k's is no surprise! It was great day with a good bunch of blokes. Orry gets rider of the day for me, not just for the well led ride but for the effort you went to putting good quality fuel at banister for us instead of using the standard servo stuff. Ross, you get stack of the day...it was tough call after Scotty's 2 stroke drowning but the head butting the tree did it for me!
