The second annual Crusty Quinns Murchison Off Road Adventure.

Lets face it guys, its a bloody long drive to go for a dirt bike ride, so why do we do it!!!!

Last year inaugural event turned out to be a pearler so we called it again, talked a few of the wives into coming and booked a weekend when we would have MOR to ourselves. After arriving early afternoon and settling into the shearers quarters, Bev wondered down to see if we needed anything and to sort out how we would occupy ourselves for the next three days. Bev and Mal will look after every aspect of your weekend and plan it as fast pace or lay back as you like it.

We opted to get the buggies out on the Friday afternoon for a two hour blast around the station. The kids joined in and buckled themselves in for the ride of their lives. There was plenty of mud to spin around in and the dust was down to a minimum. The pics tell the story. Unfortunately a couple of the little Chinese buggies gave out but the MOR crew looked after those who did not complete the ride with a Monday morning adventure after some repairs were made.

The best time of the day up in the Murchison is when the sun is going down. Everyone gathered around a big fire on a small cliff overlooking the Murchison River with a drink and nibbles and talked about their day so far. The sun dropped below the horizon, the BBQ was fired up and dinner was served. The rest of the night was spent kicked back watching the flames while the guys relived past rides and the woman talked about ..... who cares what they talked about!!!!

Most had a bit of a lay in on Saturday morning with a late brekkie and then got booted up for the tag along tour. Young Daniel had only just finished putting his KX250 back together the night before after a full engine rebuild, so before we took off he did a quick 10 minute run in session and we were ready to go.

Daniel had picked his game up big time from last years ride and led us on some awesome trails with varying levels of challenges. Col Mac, KLX Pete and Husky Mike played chasey most of the day with him and had to work hard to keep up the pace. KLX Pete managed to push him the hardest for the day and he picked up the ROTD award for his efforts. The SOTD award was handed to Daniel who was busy watching some 4 x 4s illegally camped on his station when he lost the front end and came down. Well done son.
We rode a lot of new trails and some from the year before. Last years event was hot and dusty and the almost perfect weather conditions this year made the technical work a breeze and really enjoyable. Lunch was served river side by the MOR crew which consisted of a nice piece of dead cow, fried rice and salad. A top way to spend the day.

Saturday night was spent the same as the night before. Another big fire, another cook up, more drinks and more talking shite. These are the parts of the weekend that really make them worthwhile. More stories, a bag of marshmallows to toast on the fire and a great group of people to share the night with. There were even a few falling stars to be spotted and a story about the ghost of a young Aboriginal girl who had been murdered out there years ago.

Some of the boys did some more exploring on two wheels around the station on Sunday morning while the other group headed out in the buggies again. The kids had a great weekend, riding their quads, playing with the pet goat and sheep and even went horse riding. Everyone had a great time and are keen to return next year even the ladies!!!! There are plenty of facilities to cater for a much larger group so pencil it in on your calendar for next year. Maybe we should look at staying a little longer next time just to kick back and relax and really take in the serenity.

A huge thanks to the MOR crew for looking after us and well done to Daniel for a top tag along tour.
