The ride was called by Carlo because his collarbone has now healed and he wanted to try and break it again before he returned to the surgeon to have the plate remote - of course he didn't tell the wife this. He will also have to shortly return to the Roman Empire because his mother is ill and he wanted to make the most of the last of the winter rains before the summer hits us.

The ride was called as a “trail ride” as opposed to some CQ gatherings where the only good ride is a fast ride. Col Mac called a Lano ride for those CQ riders who love the fast pace and trails up around Wedge Island.

When we arrived at the location for the trail ride I overheard Roley telling the boys that it was going to be an easy, well guided, leisurely paced ride and I was going to lead it. The reason for this wasn't clear to me other than the fact that I had a GPS.

Those of you who have led a ride know full well that it is a large responsibility which requires the ability to keep everybody flowing, not lose anybody and take into account the different skill levels and experiences of each rider.

Anyway even though I can't read my GPS without glasses, which I didn't have with me, I managed to do a 95 km loop without losing anybody. There was a good range of goat trails, a lot of open hard pack sand with good berms ands and even a few woops here and there. At one point for some unknown reason my GPS decided that it would orientate South rather than north and we went around in circles for a while. I then had to get Alan who doesn't need glasses to fix the problem for me.

We have a new rider Russell with us and my informants tell me that the lad can ride well and seemed to enjoy himself. Young Sam who has had a couple of rides with the CQs started to run low on fuel and this was a good reminder for two strokers to take one or 2 Litres in the backpack or at least some oil to mix as the DRZ tankers can always provide additional fuel.

The ride was incident free other than a couple coming down on some big rock hill (no not the usual hill) and fun was had by all. In fact about two thirds of the ride and was on trails that I had not been on before so all in all it was a good day.

Rider of the day goes to me because I couldn't see anybody else from the front.

At the end of the ride Roley remarked that the ride was a great “no pressure” ride - I am sure that he had no pressure whatsoever riding sweep, being driven down to the location for the ride, or not having to fork out for the Maccas breakfast for him and Steve. Goodonya Bro!
