To divide the boys from the men you have to take things out of the comfort zone and thats exactly what i did.
the forecast was for 37 degrees so i thought a grueling 100km run through some of the toughest and driest terrain mother nature could throw at us, would keep all the lady boys at home, and sure enough i was right. Only 3 crustys were brave enough to face these elements, we had wog boy 2(carlo) newish guy Rothy and me of course(choko). Klx pete had a last minute cancelation due to bike failure, that must be a kawasaki thing!
Anyway we met at the usual spot for a 7 oclock start, the idea was to try and beat the heat, but as the sweat dripped of my brow while unloading the mighty honda i new we were in for a long day.
A brief meeting was held and rothy had put his hand up for sweep,i was leading and carlo liked being the meat in the sandwhich.lol
We were off, usual entry into the power lines through the single trail then over the powerlines to the trail that leads inland. i quick regroup at the end before we went up the hill saw carlo have his first stack, he's a little rusty cause its been awhile. nothing broken and no injuries so we were quick to move on.The 3 of us moved fairly quickly through the trails with minimal stops as it was getting hotter by the second, apparently there was dust but i didnt see any. everything was going to plan until i stopped on a corner waiting to put carlo down but carlo decided to ride straight pass me, i then waited for rothy who wasnt far behind and told him to wait at the corner while i chased carlo down. I take off to get carlos and as i go around the corner i see him on the floor with the bike on top of him, stack #2 but this time theres a bit of repair work to be done. The shop who put his steering dampner in hadnt tightened the underneath bolts to well and his hanlebars were moving all over the place, a quick tighten and off again. We arrived at the narly little hill climb that takes you to the look out spot, everyone makes it up but rothy says it was hard work and a little bit of walking and pushing was needed. A 5 min break everyone had there breath back and we were off again, down the usual big hill to the big open area. Again things were moving well. All sweet till we reached the river crossing that only 2 weeks ago had stripped me of all my pride, i wasnt brave enough to take it on again so i cowerdly went around, while carlos decides to show me how its done, followed closely by rothy, well done guys hats off to you both. we then came to the second river crossing and once again with my tail between my legs i take the detour, rothy has a look and decides to come with me this time.Carlo brimming with confidence from the last one decides he'll give it ago, he gets about a meter in when the front sinks into a rut and the bike stalls, electric start didnt want to work so carlo with the help from rothy both had to pull the bike out, I then backtracked to go help try to start the yammahcaca. finally i kick it over and off we go, no we dont carlos stuck in a rut, back off the bike walk over to see carlo and rothy again pulling carlo out. OK now we can go. Sweat dripping carlo looks like he wants out, rothy still gives me the thumbs up so he's good, we move on.We made our way through whoopsville then through the famous gullys, most of the hard works done. Flowing through the trails thinking of cold beer we only had one more serious challenge to conquer and that was the seriously rutted, rocky, steep hill climb, we get there and i stall out half way up, thank god for magic buttons , i never could have kicked it over there. we all get up in one peice but we are all officially F#%$ed, its here carlo tells me he wants to kill me, not long now i tell them and quickly fire up the bike and take off. We arrive at thestart of the creek, its here i was almost bribed to take the road back. We pushed on the usual way home through the powerlines at a slow dying pace but we still did it, we arrived back at the cars by 11:30 and the ice cold beer from rothy made it all worth while. Rotd i will give to Rothy for doing a fantastic job at sweep, getting off and helping carlo when ever he needed it, thats true crusty spirit Thanks rothy. All up it was a great ride with 2 hardcore crusty brothers. and for all those who stayed home...SOFTC#@#S!!!
