Midwest sand and whoops
Here's Wombats ride report from Saturday. Can you please upload it to
Reports gallery? Cheers. "Smoko at Horrocks" Riders: Wombat, Merv, Jimmy We all gathered at Merv's place for a 9am start to discuss strategies in tackling the next 50k's of sandy woops and that was just getting there. The general consensus was to just ride as quick as you can, weight back, and keep the front light. Sounds easy enough, right? We headed off down to Drummonds car park where we met up with a friend Adam. Adam has done this trip several times before, and was keen to do it again. Off we set through the first section full flight with an aggressive approach to conquer the whoops. Mission accomplished. That wasn't too bad so far. Quick stop at Coronation for some snakes and a chat then off again. The track was soft and gutless, the lack of rain over the past couple of weeks wasn't helping. The whoops seemed to be increasing in intensity the further we went. You would find yourself looking for any line that wasn't as bad but they didn't exist. Just remember original strategy, ride em fast, weight back etc etc blah blah... (good in theory) We soldiered on in true Crusty fashion and eventually made it to some hard terra firma after Bowes River, which is a back track into Horrocks. Relief at last. Pulled up at the General Store to fill the bikes and fuel our bodies. A pie and Gatorade never tasted so good and the 30 minute extended smoko break was well worth it. Now all we had to do was get back! Wonder if the woops are any easier in reverse? NOT! We all made it back to Drummonds carpark without any casualties and no nominations for SOTD. We might have done a bit of pruning on the bushes either side of the track, but thats why they invented barkbusters? Isn't it? |
