I'll admit i am still a bit gunshy on my bike, after nine months out with a badly broken shoulder. But you gotta get back on the horse and Pounce and Mick came up with a loop for a big jessy like me.

With a forecast of 30 deg c, all the players made their way through the blackout dustcloud and into the parking area and suited and booted in double quick time. With Pounce leading and Col Mac sweeping, we were straight into some fairly tight single track and a narrow creekbed. With the dust around and no totally defined route, there was a little bit of "where did he go" going on. At the first regroup, Col Macs bike started to play up and needed a jump start from Tommy to light the big Bergs fire again. In fairness i am surprised we didn't have a few boil overs, as the bikes did get very hot. There was some uphills and one nice downhill and all in all just what a returning rider needs to get his mojo back.

Just when we were getting going again and at around the 1/2 way point, Jacko lost an argument with a loose branch on the track and it punched a hole in his left rad. All sorts of goopy concoctions were pressed into the wound, but Jacko was not too happy to continue and decided discretion was the better part of valour and headed for the cars. That'll be the Hog award for Jacko then.

The pace also started to pick up, as Mick took a turn at sweep and the boys started to get to grips with the conditions. A couple of the more experienced riders should know better and made a new shortcut in the bush, when they couldn't pull up for a left hander and fortunately they both rode it out.

Another stop and Col Macs bike cried foul again and this time it was traced to a loose battery connection. That fixed, we made the last leg for home and on this more open leg it seemed that all the guys were having a ball and the pea gravel did its best to make you feel you were a rear wheel steering god!

Close to the end and lightening struck twice and Ponce had a peice of rad make a bid for freedom and it left him with a rad shroud flapping in the breeze. A little open heart DRZ surgery later and we were up and running again and all was well to the end.

Thanks to Pounce and Mick for organizing this and helping me on my road back to usual low standards!

No SOTD or ROTD really.

Hog award for Jacko.

Thanks for this today mate and see you in a few weeks - Col Mc
