Andrew and Gavin posted a ride at exactly 19:16 on Friday night at exactly the same time and with destinations that were within ten kilometers of each other. A plan was hatched to ride from the OVT and meet up with CRF Andrew and Bender at a limestone quarry.

Its not an adventure if everything goes to plan.

1. Unfortunately I know of at least six limestone quarries in the Pinjar area.

2. Andrew had written a bad word on the Crusty Message Board, Sand (Those who attended or looked at the photos of last weekends tour of duty will understand)

3. My GPS and I still dont understand what each other is doing on the bike.

Like adventurous Crustys Gavin and I took off from the OVT and after an hour of riding some (sandy) interesting tracks, found that we were no closer to Andrew and Benders location.

After another phone call / regroup, it was decided that we would, Head that way! Which turned out to be correct and we found Andrew and his mate Bender.

Andrew has a very nice private, natural terrain torture track. We introduced ourselves to Bender and played Motocrossers for about four laps before falling in a heap.

If you want to improve your bike fitness, phone CRF Andrew and book a training session.

If there is two rocks in a square Km of sand, I can find one with the front wheel, fall onto the second, protecting myself with my right kidney and smile through the pain remembering that I have a good kidney on the other side.

CRF Andrew showed us how it should be done with some smooth laps and then suggested that we try a track to the West of the Quarry, failing to let us know that there is an easy way around a nasty hill climb.

This little hill looked easy enough.

1. Wash off some speed to ride over the log crossing the path.

2. Gain some traction on the rolly rocks and keep the bike straight before the next step up.

3. Maintain momentum to lift the front wheel over the last rock ledge and simply use this momentum to smoothly roll to the top without breaking traction.

You guessed it. I crashed on the left side and drove a rock into my other kidney.

Gavin cleverly took the easy way around and arrived at the top and couldnt see what the fuss was about.

Kidneyless we rode some nice trails finding some old limestone kilns and many little motocross tracks. Fully kitted out with wooden ramped jumps and sculpted turns.

About the same time as our camelbacks ran out, we arrived back at the OVT. Gavin rode smoothly all day and deserves ROTD. I punished both my bike and internal organs and get SOTD.

Nice to meet you Bender.

FT Allen.
