The call went out during the week for a Midwest run out towards Mullewa. Brownie was in, Merv was up for the ride, Jimmie had a family obligation to attend to and Tony was heading out to the track to ride around in circles with a big bunch of other guys.

Saturday came and Brownies old back injury was causing problems so he called and suggested Acid Gloves might need to fill in for him. Sunday morning and Brownie had straightened up and was back on for the ride. By 11.00 am he was back on the phone and had twitched the back again booting up for the ride. He was out!

Merv and Acid turned up around lunch time and we were on our way. Merv led us out through the normal combination of some great goat trails, crap heavy sand trails and then on to the nice flowing gravel and mud trails.

Every time we hit the sand I heard the mighty 450 of Mervs roar into life and the pair of them disappear towards the horizon. I like riding deep sand at a reasonable pace, on the plane, in control and feeling half safe. Merv said the best he could do today was 140 kph in the heavy stuff and that was only because he kept running out of track.

There were some nice big mud holes today after plenty of rain during the week. One particular deep hole I made an effort to skirt around the outside but the rear wheel slipped in and then it drew me deeper into the hole. Merv decided it looked easier to simply ride straight through so as I was checking his progress before heading off, all I could see was a head light with a big bow waive and a heap of steam coming off the radiators. Nice work Merv.

We headed into some really good enduro country and did a fair bit of cross county even playing stock round up with a large herd of roos for a short distance. A quick refuel from a morning fuel dump secret location and we were on our way home. Wet from some random showers moving in over the coast but with big smiles on our faces and the satisfaction of knowing we didnt sit home and watch dirt bikes on Foxtel, we were out living the life.

Thanks to Acid also for coming along!!
