wayne called a mid week ride for the slackers not working and wr rob, crf jason and myslf signed up for it. wokalup- wicked we meet at the settlers servo and cut accross to wokalup booted ready to ride shortly after 9am. it was shaping up to be a magic day due to the small group we planned a few photo sessions and a bit of messing around. first stop was only a few minutes in as i had to fix my front brake and a few pics jumping over a log loading ramp. mint trails and hills followed, wayno really knows his way around and took us along awesome trails i have not riden down there before and was blown away by the terrain and tracks. anyway fast forward to the river, 25ft wide, deep, and flowing fast. we were stopped and looking and thats where the shit started, i broke my 1 second rule. the rule that says give yourself 1 second to pick a line and go!! it looked real ugly and i was gunna bail but a little voice coming off a wr450 said "go for it hooters!"
so me and katy went swimming and it was bad. i wasn't too worried when the water came up to the seat but it kept coming- over the handlebars, opps! me and katy floating down the river, i managed to grab a tree with one hand and bike with the other, and apparantly cried "like a girl" for help so in the crusty spirit the boys all had a dip to help me out- champion!! we skull dragged one very wet hooters and a very dead ktm up the bank and up onto the track above. hang on haven't i been here before?? oh well at least it was my bike this time!! big thanks all round, i started working on my bike and the boys had to wade back accross the river and find another spot to cross- maybe the concrete bridge 50meters up stream- doh!.....
wayno and jason were skepical but the kiwi boy was quietly confident katy would live and my day would not be over. so dry out bike 101, lift up vertical on rear wheel to drain exhaust, take off air cleaner and dry, tank off seat off plug out crank motor observe gallons of water coming out of barrell! drain carby, re-assemble and bingo katy lives!!! true story. i had to drain the carby once more and it didn't miss a beat all day! due to the cars only being a few km away we decided to cruise over re fuel dry gloves etc and drop my oil which looked like melted ice cream. about an hour later we were all sorted for the arvo loop
the arvo loop was more of the same style of terrain wicked trails extreme hills, hills with erosion mounds all the way up to smash, big puddles to wheelie thru, creeks more hills and wayno's special track. it was, well, special! one large puddle nearly had me swimming again but made it. hey ya gotta get back on the horse! we had a close call with a lone dude on a crf coming the other way but we had seen tracks and were on the look out, so no drama. a few minor offs, rob had a very lucky oh f**k moment which was a joy to watch! we got back to cars around 4pm. its a bloody laugh but even the shortcut back to the cars was ripper. cheers for leading wayne, the best tracks i have been on i reckon. thanks for the help in the river boys. and after the incident investigation, i reckon it was robs fault!
"go for it hooters" ha ha! great day, bit of drama to make it interesting, no injurys and many many laughs!! 120km of dirt bike paradise
