Mick called a ride “ Sand n Dust 07:30 at the OVT bring fuel for 100 klm” that sorted them out as only 4 turned up. DRZ Steve had a shiny new WRF 450 Yamaha just two days old. So we had to do the usual thing and inspect it for him first thing was to tighten the chain then give him a list of what he needs to buy for it just to try and take the smile of his face , rad guards, good tyres , steering damper , the list goes on and on but he was having none of it and just kept on smiling :-) come to think of it he didn’t stop smiling all day.
Anyway we were here to ride not talk so off we went into the Sand n Dust Mick leading with WR Ross (on his Husaberg) sweeping DRZ Steve ( on his WRF) and me (Tommy) in the middle. The first tracks were dusty with no wind but with only 4 of us we had plenty of room to spread out and get clear air this helped a lot then, Mick took us up a very soft and boggy hill just for the view and to bed in the rings on Steve’s new bike which was very thoughtful of him always thinking of others ha ha. At every regroup Steve was seen checking the bike for loose bits and pieces pulling out any foliage that he had picked up along the way. After this the wind picked up a bit and the dust settled down so we headed into the tighter tracks where we managed to lose Mick for a short time in some very thick bush so we cut our engines and could hear him not far away so we followed the noise and were reunited. At this point Steve said his petrol light had come on so we headed off for lunch and a refuel.
After lunch we hit some long fast straight fire trails for some fun until we came across a ute coming the other way and Mick decided to head over to some pines were there would be no other traffic a good call. The pines were great, soft sand topped with needles some fallen trees, some turned to powder when you hit them and others that were hard and almost threw you over the handlebars. Then into a quarry for a photo shoot of the new bike going up the hill but I missed the good one when Steve dropped it turning around to come down again this got him SOTD he was riding fast all day and was the dirtiest so it was decided that he must have been riding the hardest and for that he also gets ROTD.
Thanks to Mick450 for another great day out and Ross for sweeping.
PS it appears Drz Steve is now WR Steve
