Pounce’s Hungee Ride Report Sat 9 June 2012

12 Riders,

The scene was set for a magic ride on sat, a fair bit of rain during the week and also 100th ride for the all round crusty legend that is Pounce. Courtesy of Tommy we were called upon to have a wicked ride and share the moment with the big fella. And the whole day didn’t disappoint, as usual Tommy led a fast flowing ride through awesome country, even a cake to mark the occasion – good work Tommy a big effort for pounce, and thankyou on behalf of everyone.

We rockup at the Rock Inn, temp has dropped about 15degrees from down on the flats, god it’s a good sport we do, fashion stakes are high this morning, combo of knee high riding socks in thongs, jeans shorts, flannos, and ‘just crawled out from under a rock’ hair styles. The motorcrossers would never have a bar of this, not enough bling, but Skullman has some pretty fancy riding gear – he’d be all right. No skulls on the berg yet though.

Convoy out to the spot, sure to make all the early sat morning tradies jealous, its sweet as conditions got to love June. We’re at a new spot for me and the idea is to head north so I reckon that’d be all right, some new ground. All gear up, have a chinwag and its off. Wrexy doesn’t want to tempt fate - he had the mojo on last week at West Coast, riding like Grabham for two days (brother from another mother) – and doesn’t want to have to can 2 European holidays in 2 years. The missus would be well upset. Wise man. Serves in trusty sweep position all day.

Tommy treats us to a brilliant mix of fast gravel/mud, fast loamy/mud, fast sandy/mud, fast clayey/mud gotta love June. We are out of the way a lot because the single track is near on virgin and the tracks are covered in wet leaves gotta love rippin that stuff up. There’s big fast rooster tails and nice fast sweepers everywhere. Everyone is crankin, Ross/Skullman/Harves on the Bergs, Katos/DRZ aren’t letting the team down though, Todd’s got two broken ribs but you couldn’t tell and Micks roosting letting the 450 rip.

Troy and Shaun don’t believe in brakes going down hill. Few times cruise past on steep down hills strewn with rocks like size 3 basketballs but all jagged and rocky like. Like pros. Have plenty of dog fights in the middle and that’s pretty cool.

Pounce upsets a bunch of ladies all tucked up all cosy in a tent way out in the middle of nowhere and they give him the finger even though we were very nice and rolled past as quietly as we could. He wants to do something like out of wolfe creek and do donuts around the tent for a half hour. We convince him that’s not a good idea – everyone’s well entitled to his or her recreation. Tommy cracks his ‘meet your demons’ hill in one go, in fact Wrexy doesn’t even have to dismount to help anyone, but Tommy is stumped by another. This one is pretty nasty, not that I had a look at it, better save that one for another day. Troy and Tommy go on a reconnaissance mission and arrive back sweatin its been pretty hard work and the top doesn’t appear rideable.

Its good fun riding the creek valley skate park again, up and down with tight hairpins, a few push off black boys keeps me going straight. Not as much water as expected but that is ok. Pounce gives skullman a drenching going through a hole and it’s a 20 litre bucket straight in the face at high speed – gets me crackin up.

The kms are getting up there (180 for the day) - Wayno needs to be somewhere so we head towards a road – this confuses the hell out of Tommy who’s been the human GPS all day, that’s ok because it means we stay out there for a few more loops, Pounce assists and we get back all in one piece. No major off’s, troy feels like a little lie down on one corner late in the piece, harves has to get a bit loose to stop in time.

We are back to the cars and Tommy rips out a cake for Pounce, can’t fit 100 candles on it so some smarties do the trick. VB and cake….bloody beautiful. Great day fellas, great fast riding and awesome company to share pounce’s milestone. Congratulations Pounce.

Now where is this storm, bloody came home from work early and took the shade sails down.

Jeffro.
