Been a bit quiet on the Midwest front so decided to call a quick blast up to Horricks as we've had a few recent rains which may have put some body back into the tracks.

To top it off it was Merv's 30/19th birthday (49th) so we had to get out there right?

Grouped up at my place and had new comer Ivan join us.
He was borrowing Bushy's bike as he felt the need to upgrade his magnificent 03 525 and was eying off a 11 WR450. What was he thinking.

Well north bound we rode feeling full of beans as it had been a while between drinks for us.

The big Kato 500 setting a good early pace and soon discovered that what ever moisture had fallen in recent times was no longer present in the tracks. The unpredictable corners of soft sand posed challenge after challenge as we throttled on to ride as quick as we could to stay on top of the sand rather than sinking into it.

As the energy levels were sapped from us, the pace was slower than normal.

And then along came the "Flyin Ivan".

The guys a loaded gun blasting all and everything in his path making it look like he was on rails. He set a pace that we couldn't match and were only able to catch him when he either stalled or a 4x4 blocked the path! What a legend.

We pushed along and eventially reached Horricks for a well deserved pie n drink and used the time to reflect on how soft the tracks currently were.

After a whole minute it was time to head back as we had beer appointment to uphold from 12 onwards.

Offered the big 500 to Ivan to ensure he wasn't going over to the blue side without a decent comparison to consider.

Yep, good move. As if there wasn't enough gap previously between us, that just elongated it even more!

A quick regroup after the 5k woop stretch, Ivan was waiting for us to catch and Merv took opportunity to advance down the track with some haste only a man on a beer mission could display.

I quickly followed to get the jump on Ivan only to be overtaken by my own bike some 5k's down the track.
Ouch!

Quick regroup at Corronation and off on the home straight where I had a minor laydown due to a combination of clipping the inside corner and a lack of positive steering gave me close encouters of the shrub kind.

Pride was the only casualty here....

Pace was a bit slower (except freakin Ivan) after that and we managed to get back home without further incident.

Timing was awesome as we reached the Drummonds carpark to see it full of bikes ready to head off where we just been!

Quickly dispursed home for a tidy up then off to have birthday beers with Merv.

Cheers!
Wombat
