About Tuesday I jumped on the message board and laid a bait for a sunday ride- I figured if I got in first before everyone made plans for Saturday we were in with a chance. And both Rob and I were tied up Saturday. So after talking to Rob I called a ride for sunday at the lakes, me with no GPS and no idea, hehe! So 7:30 at the lakes roadhouse 8 of us rocked up ready to ride, the bike gods looked after us with a heavy shower sat night and the guru (pounce) showed up so we had someone to bail us out if we got bushed (phew) We decided to gear up and ride from the roadhouse so off we went Rob leading thru about a thousand whoops, after about 1/4 hour the whoops died out and we got into some faster 4x4 type tracks and after strict instructions I lead for a bit. With a change of lead to Rob and his magical GPS we then hooked into some proper single track following creeks and climbing over rocky hills- awesome country which I thought were new trails but were old trails in the opposite direction- tricky! There was a few patches of grey/green slippery doom around and Marcel threw his big yellow steed about 200 meters thru the air and the old girl had had enough and refused to start, starter motor refusing to turn. After a bit of crusty quinns trickery (and a push!) big yellow fired up and off we went. Marcel under instruction not to stall as his starter was still out. more great single track with Rob leading and pounce's tweaks now and again we headed back towards the lakes coming out on the powerline track snuck past a hundred 4wd's and a quick short single track back to the cars. we loaded up and headed back towards midland where there was a fine establishment with fair maidens great food and icey beer. Mmmm, turns out the worst pub in the southern hemisphere had microwaved frozen pizza served by a solitary wench who was slightly better looking than the homeless dude scoping our cars out! ...but the beer was cold! obviously stack of the day goes to Marcel, and I'm nominating Rob for ROTD for leading most of the ride. Thanks to Pounce for his wisdom ( but not pub selection hehe!) cheers to Rothy and Paul for sweeping and everyone else for the laughs. Good to see Darin again and to meet Marcel. over and out, ps more rain please bike gods
