Trail Report: August 11th 2002
Report: Since the last event there had been several minor get togethers by various players but finally 3 Crusty Quinns Diehards managed to be available on the same day; 3 players or more always means an official meet ;) However, "Simon" had found the messageboard and, also being a Perth northen suburbs lad, was keen to get out and join the fun as well. 2 o'clock is the scheduled meet time and the 3 players head out for the rendezvous. While waiting, the team bumps into Geoff out with another gang of riders. There is no shortage of riders - or 4x4s - must be the glorious Perth "winter" weather ;) Simon is found, introductions are had, off to Alkimos. JAW hangs back with Simon, nursing his rolled ankle from a previous week's efforts but also to give him a few riding tips. Simon hasn't been in the saddle for a long time, and has never ridden sand, and is riding his brand spanker 2002 XR400. This combination can only result in one thing: a number of ungraceful stops ;) JAW offers the key advice - get up on the pegs, power out of trouble, look where you want to be not at the ground in front of you - and Simon is picking it up pretty quick. By the time they reach the time trial he is knackered and heads back with a Rob escort. Keep up the practise Simon, and break that new girl in gently - not too much hard revving ;)
After a rest at the Yanchep Tanks the lads pack it in and head back to Alkimos. JAW puts Brad and Al out in front and is pretty happy to give Brad Rider of the Day. After a fair bit of earlier trash talk Brad has come through with the goods, he's slowly drifting into the distance as JAW tries to keep up, to no avail. He'd use something like "stuffed ankle" but Brad would just say "excuses excuses." ;)
Al had already done the beach run on the way up and said that the tide was out and the beach was flat and nice. He was right - and excellent run. Was also good to see the TTR250 keeping up with the big boys, although we all know Brad that you must have been on the throttle stop the entire distance ;) The lads part ways on Marmion ave and another successful "impromtu official meet" is over. Bring on the next meet! |
