Trail Report: August 2nd 2003

Players: Adrian, Andy, Bucky, Brad, Colin, Nathan, Peter, Phil, Rob, Rob2(xr600), Simon, Steve, Tim426.
Venue: Lancelin to Wedge
Rider of the Day: Colin - Organizes the event & rides the DR250 like a demon all day..
Stack of the Day: Phil - Flips the big 380 whilst pulling a mono at Wedge.
Breakages & Injuries: Phil - bends the handlebars pretty good on the KTM, lands hard on his back.

Report by Brad:

Colin makes the call on the message board: let's do a Lancelin to Wedge Run!! The players respond well & there are a good number of people that make the trip north to Lancelin. First stop is the famous Lancelin pie shop were the guys gather for a chin wag, pie or sausage roll etc. before the days riding begins. Simon almost has an extra topping on his snack when a seagull drops a bit of a ‘good luck charm' from the sky, missing his tucker but leaving a nice ‘smudge' on his jumper!!

Rest time on the beach near Wedge Island.

Unloading at the dunes a problem reveals itself, Steve's KX250 is refusing to go, numerous plug removals/cleans/refits later it is discovered that the ceramic has cracked on the plug, a quick dash to Lancelin off-road hire gets him a new plug and the Kwaka comes to life, saving him from a possible HOG award.

A bit more filming for the upcoming CQ2 video.

On route to Wedge the pace is on with Phil cranking the 380 at a great pace, the players settle themselves into a smooth convoy with Colin cranking the little DR250 hard, mixing it with bigger machinery, this along with the organization of the day earns him the prestigious Rider of the Day award. It's a smooth trip there and the players find themselves at Wedge in double quick time. A rest on the beach at Wedge for some but not Phil, he's back on the 380 trying to pull monos on the soft sand, an overzealous attempt results in a flip and bike ‘n' rider go down ,hard, Phil still has his aluminum fuel can in his back pack, and cops a nasty landing. A brief pause but Phil is OK, but now wearing Stack of the Day. Meanwhile a bit of roosting is happening amongst the boys (Andy/Tim) and Rob's - despite being crook all week - is cranking the ‘gentleman's' 500 for a bit of a donout session.

An equally fast pace on route back to Lancelin, and Andy cooks up one of his now famous gourmet sausage BBQs complete with his home made sauce, mmm tasty, the boys are fed ‘n' happy, thanks to Andy. Most players head home after Lunch, but a handful have a quick play in the dunes before making the easy one hour trip back to Perth.

Leave Wedge Island behind for another day.

Great weather, fast riding, good food, sounds like dirt bikers dream!!! Can't wait ‘till the next one…

...the Western Australian coastline on a beautiful winters day. Does it get better than this?
