Night Ride - Lano - Wedge and Return
Date 09/Dec/06
7 Riders Colin, Colin McCaughey, Deets, KTM Mark, peter, Roley, Tawa
Rider of the day Deets
Stack of the day Colin
Col Mc believed that going on a night ride was about as silly as putting your helmet on backwards and walking around the house running into things. He couldn't resist and came along anyway. 8 riders turned out for a dash from Lano to Wedge and return to check out what it is really like.

We hadn't even left the carpark behind the bakery before the boys in blue came over to see what a bunch of dirt bike riders were doing lurking around in a dark carpark. After a short chat about rego plates and what our intentions were he drove off telling us to have a good night.

After a good 500 m's leading, Col was overtaken by the more fearless (MAD) riders. Deets took over and wound the big Katoom up, slipping her into 6th gear and setting a pace that suited the likes of KTMMark. As Mark was hugging Deets up front most of the time, he then had the honour of laying down the corner man a heap of times. After the 6 other riders past him it didn'ttake hime long to work his way past the pack again passing others at a frightening pace in the dark.

ROTD was a tough call. Was it Mark riding a the same speed normal people would ride in the day light, was it the new guy Tawa riding a MX bike with a bolt on push bike light or was it everyone of us for just riding in the dark. No it was Deets for being brave enough to clear a path through the roos, find his way through the dark without the aid of a GPS and push the big 525 in 6th gear out front with other crazies on his tail. Well done mate.

Some of the guys lights were better than others. THe KTM's had a better low beam than high beam. As I said, Tawa was on a push bike light, Pete and Col's lights were fine and Roley's single beam DRZ light lit up the track like the Mitchel Freeway.

There were a few spills throughout the ride. Col picked up SOTD coming down on a old mud rut in front of the group. Roley also came down hard but unfortunately did it out of view of everyone. Col Mc was seen on more than one occassion picking the 450 up out of the sand. Deet's probably nearly took the award by cleaning up a roo which smashed his front fender off at the triple clamps but his expert skill (so he says) kept him upright.

This was a quote from Deets on the message board the next day.

" How cool was that one guys... had one of the best rides ever. Brought back memories riding MX bikes under just a full moon when the dare was on fortified with a new tubes.

Stacks a plenty, (almost fell off my bike laughing a few times)... Missed corners, blind crests, wrong turns, lost sweeps!

Wheelstands were fun but absolute madness! Couldn't shelve em, I was buzzing too much to not try one or two.

Katoom low beam worked better than high???

Worked way better when that roo adjusted the front guard for me! (no reflection from a guard snapped off from the triples forward and I felt like I was riding motard for the last 10km)

6th gear a night... close to orgasm as it gets in thrill factor. Saw some great form from some of the braver one's time to time and all smiles from the 3 baboons. "

Now I think that just about says it all. Did we have a good ride? YES. Will I do it again? YES Am I looking forward to the Quindanning Night Enduro? YES.

WE ONLY GOT THE ONE PIC FOR THE NIGHT BUT WHAT A GREAT SHOT. YOU CAN SEE THE SMILES ON EVERYONES FACES. CHECK OUT THAT PUSH BIKE LIGHT ON TAWA'S BIKE AND THE SMASHED FRONT FENDER ON DEET'S BIKE. (I THINK WE NEED A CAMERA WITH A FLASH)

ONLY JOKING - PETE GOT A FEW PICS I'LL PUT UP ONCE HE GETS THEM ON THE GALLERY.
