A Weekend at Wedge.

PART OF THE WEDGE CMP SITE.

The campers travelled to Lano and on to Wedge in two separate groups with Col Mc and KTM Mark Driving up on Saturday. The first group lead by Col ran into trouble on the very first dune just pass the off road car park. The Suzzi went down to its axles and after a quick tyre deflation and a push from a half a dozen helpers, the little 4 x 4 crawled its way out of the soft stuff. Wendy then did as Brad had told her and hit the same dune in second gear in the big Toyota. It too became bogged. Pete followed up the rear and with the Nissan in first and the rev limiters screaming for mercy, the little Xtrail easily pulled over the top of the sand drift.

Brad dropped behind getting close to Wedge and after a 15 minute wait he turned up telling us how the 525 had tried to get off the trailer and a couple of tie downs had broken. Day turned to night and we reached Wedge in the dark a bit later than expected.

The second group turned up an hour later. They had tried to take the beach but after Steve525 got stuck next to the water and Craig was needed to pull him out, they turned around and went back to the inland tracks. KXSteve reckoned the Disco would have gone over the soft stuff like driving down the Mitchell Freeway.

FUTURE CRUSTY QUINNS.

Saturday morning started with a feast fit for a King. Bacon, eggs and all the trimmings were cooked up to prepare the lads for a ride over to Cataby and back. Craig lead the ride however only 12 k's down the track, pulled over with a rear flat tyre. A tube change and we were off again. Kx Steve dropped the smoker over an unfamiliar crest and hid behind the bike knowing Col was close behind him. Col narrowly missed Steve but ran over his rear wheel. The guys didn't quiet make it to Cataby and decided to head back to Wedge after Craig picked up yet another flat.

Upon return to Wedge the group spotted Col Mc and his missus parked up at the nurse's shack looking for the camp spot. Col followed Craig back to the camp site to hang out with the girls while the rest of the riders went for a beach fang.

Early afternoon saw Steve525 pull a dead sheep out of a bloody big esky, drop her on the dinner table and begin to prepare her for the evening meal. Craig's misses couldn't hang around and took off, while the carcass had a large steel pole shoved up its arse and pieces of wire sown all over her. One of the kids asked was it dead, another asked how it died. We preferred to tell the kids some lie about Kiwi's and girlfriends and I think JayBo's name came into it, rather than the truth about preparing the cute little lamb dinner. The kids looked confused but we did have a good laugh.

KTMMark turned up on dark and after a chat around the camp site for an hour disappeared of to bed and then got up before light and headed home not to be seen again. Another big breakfast cookup and the group were ready for another big day. Most of the campers packed up and were on their way by late morning. The baboon mob headed down to the point near Wedge Island itself and set up camp for a couple of hours next to the water. The water was clear and perfect for swimming. An hour in the water and then lunch in the shade before packing up and heading home after a fantastic weekend. If you get the chance for a camp out at Wedge in the future - do it.

DOES IT GET ANY BETTER??
