The Powerlines (Sawyers Valley)

Chris had lead the boys on some new trails near the end of the powerlines a few weeks ago and offered to do it again. The guys who rode it last time said they were good but I recon they were terrific. Col lead the group down the main powerlines run near to where the creek starts and then Chris took over.

Chis's trails gave us a little bit of everything. Some nice flowing goat trails, even quicker fire trails and some pretty good technical creek riding/crossing. Chris picked up the ROTD award for an excellent job up front and his knowledge of the area. Well done Chris.

Of course a ride would not be complete without Choko needing a bit of assistance. I found him stopped on the side of the track with a couple of others helping him wind a few meters of fencing wire out of his rear wheel. The bush mechanics has it sorted in no time and we were on our way again.

Adrian probably didn't want an extra point today but after careful consideration, he was awarded the SOTD award. I followed him down a steep creek bed and watched as his bike slid sideways and slammed him hard into the bank on the other side. He got up making a funny gurgling sound, a little white in the face and said he may have had the wind knocked out of him!!!!! Well done to you Adrian, you climbed aboard and got on with it.

There were a few other offs today that could have easily picked up the SOTD award. Chris had an off on the soft sandy whoops. Andrea and Damo both came down at exactly the same spot after their front wheels collided with the same tree root hidden on a corner. Not 5 minutes before Andrea was heard saying how careful he would be as he was climbing on board a plane in a week and really did not want a holiday with an injury. The group stopped for a breather at a creek with a rather good launch ramp about 4 metres high which allowed a couple of the sillier riders to try out their astronaut skills. Wayne, Rocco and Damo all showed they had the goods to take it on. It was basically a 4 metre vertical wall with a slight ramp at the bottom just enough to stop you ploughing head first into it at the bottom. Col Mc thought it looked pretty easy so he gave it a go. Just near the top he bailed out leaving the bike to do a perfect 360 mid air landing heavily on its tail with Col sliding backwards down the wall. I thought we would have needed the SES to get him back up ( Drop an Ab sailing rope down with a stretcher attached) but Rocco was quick to the rescue and dragged Cols small frame back to safety. Col admitted later we may have had to drop his bike back down to him if he had of slid all the way to the bottom.

At another rest spot, Rocco riding near the front, strategically placed his bike in a mud hole so he could give a few of the boys a mud bath as they rode in. Brett, Andrea and Beau all got filled in so they thought it only fair they should drop Rocco in the mud as well. After a few rugby tackles and a lot of huffing and puffing the three stooges realised Rocco was a heavy weight and they might as well give up. I did however see a few hand fulls of mud get thrown though in frustration. Don't forget boys, you can always get him back another time.

You would have to go a long way to get a ride as good as this one. Although it was warm and got pretty dusty as the day went on, the ride was a ripper. Thanks to everyone who made it what it was. The corner man system worked a treat with a large group and everyone had a laugh. There were a couple of girlie boys who rode back the easy way from the servo. You know who you are!!! A bloody disgrace to the CQ name!!!

PS - Fiona rides like a girl!!!!!
