The lads turned out at the Lano Off Road area to find the wind blowing at about 100 knots. It was like you were being sand blasted as you got booted up but boy did it make a difference to the ride. As long as you dropped back about 50 meters from the guy in front of you, most of the dust cleared as well as keeping it cool.

The ride started as a disaster for poor Tiger. He picked up the HOG award for the day and didn't get to leave the Off Road carpark. He was later to find out the new WR had only fouled a plug.

12 riders took off in the end towards Wedge with H up front and Big Col riding sweep. Scott and Fiona bought long a couple of buddies for the ride. Scott picked up flat on the section between Wedge and the time trial and decided to ride the rest of the way without air.

The time trial was a bit of fun today. H rode the track to clear the kangaroos, emus and cows that had been seen lurking behind bushes. Fiona stood sentry with the two way to make sure the track was clear of oncoming riders before each competitor was sent off. Two of the new guys (young buggers) picked up some pretty good times but the stars were the older gentlemen Howard and Big Col who really took some time off their last attempts. Haydn, Tony and Neil also put in some good efforts.

I was going to give H the ROTD award for picking up the best time and riding like a mad man but I decided to hand it over to Neil, the quiet achiever. Neil not only put on a pretty respectable time himself, he also rode hard and fast all day. On the return leg of the Cataby trails, I was riding hard in top gear for about 10 minutes chasing the dust from Haydn and H when Neil shot past out of now where and continued the cracking pace all the way back to the main Lano track. Well done buddy.

I had plenty of laffs throughout the day but the one that takes the cake was what Arian said to me while we were loading up the bikes. He yelled out "Col, that was the best ride I have ever had". Now you don't hear Adrian say that very often do you??????

By the way, I forgot to mention that Tiger was actually one of the first ready to head off today. Roley would have been proud of him.
